Dear Friend,

A special election will be held on Monday, Dec. 29, 1919, to decide whether Tenafly shall have a public library supported and controlled by the Borough.

This expression of the voters is legally necessary to provide the 'Council with authority to include in its yearly budget funds which ,shall adequately care for such an institution.

The building, books and grounds now owned by the Free Library Association, will, it is understood, be presented to the Borough if the vote on the 29th is in favor of a town-controlled library.

The existing institution was made possible and has been continued by the persistent and arduous efforts of a few public-spirited ladies who have secured from year to year, through their Ways and Means Committee, by entertainments, etc., enough to supplement the dues of members in meeting necessary expenses.

With increasing demand for books and with added cost of maintenance it seems only fair and equitable that all should do their share in maintaining this invaluable institution. If everyone does his bit it is a hardship to no one.

If you believe in the value of a library to both young and old, but especially because of the reference books it should contain to Tenafly children attending the grammar and high schools, and also believe it should be permanently supported by all the taxpayers, not as a burden to a few, nor as a charitable institution dependent upon individual generosity, then vote ''Yes'' on the question which will be printed on the ballot.

Monday, December 29 is the date.
The regular polling places will be open.
Vote early and see your neighbors do the same.

Yours sincerely,

Tenafly Free Library Association.
