Tenafly Dedicates,Inspects New Center
Approximately 2,000 Tenefly residents turned out Sunday afternoon for the dedication of the Municipal Center, which was formally opened for inspection by Mayor Willard Knowlton during the afternoon.

The program opened with a half hour of musical selections by the combined Junior and Senior High School bands, playing, under the direction of William Gee, David Dworkin and E. Brock Griffith. Selections well received by the gathering audience included: Mexican Overture. Grecian Theme and Dance, Donkey Calypso, Air for Band, Trumpet Lullaby, with Kevin Anderson and John Weiss as soloists, and Selections from "Sound of Music."

The Rev. Henry Powers, rector of the Church of the Atonement offered the invocation, Guy McKellop Jr.. commander of DeWitt Coleman Post No.167. American Legion, and Frank Forte, Commander of Frank J. Holden Post 4701, Veterans of Foreign Wars led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Former Mayor E. Merrill Seaberg, chairman of the dedication committee, served as chairman.
and introduced other principal guests. Oldest former mayor present was Sylvester G. Farnham, 1924-27. while former Councilman Silas Hulse, who service goes back into the same period of Tenafly's history was also among those present.

Mayor Willard Knowlton spoke briefly, and commented on the excellent milestone in the history of the borough that the new facilities really is, and pointed out by contrast the former borough hall and library located within sight on Washington street_ as evidence of the growth of the borough.

Mayor Knowlton listed the many special gifts which have been announced so far for the new Center: the Flag Pole donated by the Chamber of Commerce; Flag Pole and Wheel Chair by the Lions
Club; American and State Flags and Library Furniture by Junior Woman's Club; new Borough Seal in carved wood for the Council Chamber. gift of the Evening Department of the Woman's Club; Hi-Fi Set for McCandless Community Room in the Library Wing, Kiwanis Club.

Also, the press table in the Council Chamber, Tenafly Lodge No.2271, B.P.O. Elks; Planter, by the Tenafly Rotary Club; Television sets, chairs and dishes for
Police and Fire Departments, Lawrence Rosner; Christmas tree, Girl Scouts of Tenafly; Trees. Boy Scout Troop 140:record player with earphones, for library, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mosley; Elizabeth Cady Stanton Memorial Book collection for Library. League of Women Voters. R. Worth Vaughan, vice-president of the Library Board of Trustees paid tribute to the library architect. Ira Davey, and the first board president, Edward F. Travers. for their leadership and efforts toward establishing the new library, and hailed the new facilities as “a wonderful thing for Tenafly.”

Rabbi Irwin M. Blank of Temple Sinai offered prayer, after which Judge J. Wallace Leyden_ assignment for the Superior Court of New Jersey. spoke brieflv in praise
of the new center as the heart and home of Tenafly. He urged the need for preservation of the American home and family, and stressed the need for a re-examination of the age of juvenile delinquency, with the idea of making youth
responsible for its actions at an earlier age. Benediction was pronounced by the Rev. James McGill, pastor of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Tenafly.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 85 served as guides and ushers during the afternoon, among them: Christian Ablat, Craig Bahr, Dan Barbaro, Charles Chandler, Barry Caldwell, Gary DeLuisio, Matthew Dennis, Bill Pieper , Jeff Piper, Steve Saams, Jack Shults, Keith Smykil, Tom Soyster, Bill Thompson and Jim Weiss. Troop committee men in charge were Sam Vaughan, Dan Barbara, DeJohn Shults and Anthony Pieper
