Council Lists May 3 Session on Center Bids
Special Hearing Due; Completion Hoped in Spring, ’62

Tenafly — Bids for construction of the new 3-building center will be received by the Mayor and Council at a special meeting May 3.

The Mayor and Council last night unanimously adopted a resolution authorizing advertising for the bids. The sealed bids will be opened and read at a public hearing scheduled for 8:30 P.M.

The Mayor and Council said the prospective bidders can obtain plans, specifications, and proposal forms from the Borough Clerk on and after April 12. Separate bids will be received for general construction work, structural steel and ornamental iron work, plumbing and drainage, heating and ventilating, and electrical work. The Mayor and Council said each bid must be accompanied by or certified or bank check of not less than 10 per cent of the maximum combination of
the bid.

On February 20, Mayor Howard W. Booth forecast completion of center -by the spring of 1962. He said the aim of the Borough's governing body is to get construction on the project under way by the end of May.

The project, for which a municipal bond issue of $1,297,000 was approved by referendum last November, will occupy 14 acres of Borough-owned land bounded
by Tenafly Road, River Edge Road, and West Clinton Avenue. Estimates are that it will take from 12 to 15 months to complete the project.

The municipal center, which was designed by architect Vincent G. Kling of Philadelphia, will house a public library, borough hall and fire-police head quarters in its three buildings.
