Text
In late 1968 when plans were being made for Tenafly's 75th Anniversary, someone made a chance remark that is was too bad we didn't have a good selection of pictures of an earlier period.
With this suggestion in mind, I approached the Anniversary Committee, under the chairmanship of Carl Arenander, to determine its interest in a set of color slides for 1969, to be used in favor of such a project. A small film committee was organized to oversee the preparation of such a slide presentation.
Credit for the presentation belongs to many people for their interest and cooperation. Specific credit should be given to Robert Watson for the written commentary and to Wray Noel for his supervision of the classroom pictures. The presentation includes 18 slides by Sol Feinstein of classroom scenics, and one scene by George Reissner of the school system. Victor Grohman arranged for the preparation of the title artwork, while maps were prepared by Clyde Pratt and Robert Hoops. Mrs. Eleanor Dendy was involved with the dates for events and schedules. My responsibilities were for general production and as principal photographer (286 slides). Ralph Van Syckle contributed 12 slides and Mrs. Earl Mosley and Mrs. Hans Neuberg each contributed one slide.
Tje cost of making duplicate sets of slides was born by the Anniversary Committee, while I bore the cost of the original set. There were approximately 3500 pictures taken and the selection and editing involved many decisions as to what should be kept and what shouldn't. It seemed imperative that the presentation not be longer than 320 slides or about 50 minutes in length. There of course were many places, people and events that we would have liked to include.
