Tenafly Public Library Presented with Window

photo caption: The stained glass window, "The Tree of Knowledge", being presented to the Library Board of Trustees. Those in the picture are Gail Dennis, a young patron of the Library; Mrs. Earl. C. Wood, secretary of the Board of Trustees; Karl B, Lamb of the Lamb Studios; Mrs. K. Lamb Tait, designer of the window; and Mr. R. Worth Vaughan, President of the Library Board of Trustees.

The Tenafly Public Library has been presented with a stained glass window, designed by Mrs. K. Lamb Tait and executed and installed by the world renowned Lamb Studios located in Tenafly.

In making the formal presentation Karl Lamb explained that design of the window. "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil" as portrayed by Mrs K, Lamb Tait. "Knowledge is symbolized by the Lamp of Learning at the top. The tree traditinally is an apple tree and here bears six fruits representing the six ancient attributes of the God-like man: Power of Strength, Nobility, Wisdom, Love, Mercy, Justice. The Tree of Knowledge is planted in Tenafly near the Palisades on the banks of the Hudson River. A small turtle, symbol of Oritani, the great Indian Chieftan of this region, crawls among the rocks at the bottom to remind us of the Indian lore of the Lenni-Lenapi that is our inheritance.

A companion window "The Tree of Life" has been designed for the corresponding panel window in the divider between the foyer and the main part of the library. It has been suggested that someone might like to buy the window for the library as a memorial for a loved one. Further information about the window is available at the library.

The installed window is a beautiful asset to the new library and many patrons have expressed pleasure and delight in the gift.
