Description

caption on back of photo: Christmas 1902 The boulder shown in this photograph stands upon the Palisades four hundred feet above and a mile west of the Hudson River. While poised upon the trap-rock of this interesting region, it has no attachment to it and differs from it in geologic formation. The interesting question arises as to how and where this large mass of rock came into its present surroundings. The most probable theory is that it was brought and left here in the glacial age of the world's history. And this (?) special interest to it as well as to two other similar boulders not far distant. Dr. Haring, an old resident of the locality, stands in the foreground resting an arm in a crevice of the rock. The picture was taken by his daughter on the occasion of a walk in the locality upon a late November afternoon. To Mrs. Demarest, with his compliments from her friend Dr. Haring

Note: Haring Rock was originally located on land purchased by the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades and was moved to Tenafly Nature Center in 1979.
